Why This Exists

Prey drive cannot be trained out. Stop trying.

Your sighthound was selectively bred for hundreds of years to spot movement and chase it down at speed. That wiring does not disappear because you carry better treats. Punishing the drive creates conflict, and pretending it is not there gets small animals hurt. Neither works.

This course teaches you what prey drive actually is, how to read it building in your dog before the chase starts, how to manage the risk honestly, and how to give the drive a safe, structured outlet so your dog is satisfied instead of frustrated. It is the approach I use with my own dogs, Storm and Prince, and with every high-drive sighthound that comes through my programme.

The Course

Six modules. Everything in order.

Understanding first, management second, training third. Skipping straight to training around triggers without the first two is why most owners fail.

Module 1

What Prey Drive Actually Is

The genetics behind the chase. The predatory sequence, why sighthounds are wired differently, and why neither punishment nor cheese fixes it.

Module 2

Reading the Drive

The fixation ladder from first glance to lock-on, trigger stacking, thresholds, and how to map your own dog's trigger profile.

Module 3

Management First

The non-negotiable safety layer: equipment, environment choices, garden security, and why the long line is never the answer for this breed.

Module 4

Channelling the Drive

Structured outlets that satisfy the chase instinct: rules-based lure and chase games, and teaching the off switch that brings arousal back down.

Module 5

Training Around Real Triggers

Engagement work, the leave-and-disengage protocol, systematic distance reduction, and where e-collar conditioning fits for genuine off-lead goals.

Module 6

Living With a High-Drive Sighthound

The weekly rhythm that keeps drive drained, seasonal and wildlife awareness, and the honest contract about what your individual dog can and cannot safely do.

Is This Course Right for You

This course is for you if...

You own a sighthound or lurcher with strong chase instinct
Your dog fixates on squirrels, cats, birds or small dogs and stops hearing you
You want honest management strategies, not a promise that the drive will vanish
You are willing to give the drive a proper outlet instead of just suppressing it
You want to read the build-up and act before the chase, not after it

This course is not for you if

You expect your sighthound to become indifferent to a running rabbit
You are looking for a quick fix or a single magic command
Your dog has bitten a person - that needs an in-person behaviour specialist, not an online course
